Last month Council staff proposed the sale of 1 Pittwater Rd, Manly (for those with long memories, the former Baby Health Centre). Councillors argued that there was no need to rush the sale of Council owned buildings to meet the promise to IPART to recoup $10million from property sales. At the meeting Councillors instead voted to authorise the leasing of the property through a commercial real estate agent. It is unclear why this has taken so long given the Council has tried and failed to occupy the building itself, with the Aboriginal Heritage Office, Pre poll voting location and more recently the Youth Counselling Services all spending time in the building.
The Chief Executive Officer will now appoint a suitably qualified leasing agent to market the property offering it for lease at market rent for an initial period of up to five years with an option for a further period.
