Thanks to the advocacy of people who love our waterways, the Labor Government has backed down on their plans to defund Beachwatch. That means ongoing water quality testing at 94 swim spots across Sydney, including our beloved beaches on the Northern Beaches.

The NSW Government has decided to continue the program funding under the current model for another two years and will continue to work with Councils on sustainable long-term arrangements for Beachwatch, as more swim sites open.

The Government now has an opportunity to find a solution to permanent ongoing funding for Beachwatch and the opportunity to extend the program further up the harbour to the newly created inner harbour swimming locations.
