Meanwhile over on Shelly beach work continues on the amenities block contractors started over a year ago. It is disappointing to see that in 2024 Council can approve a design that makes accessibility to the facility an afterthought. Anyone other than those able to bound up the steps to the entry will have to navigate the uneven paving and then take a hard turn over the lip of the drain and up the short one meter ramp, then around the palm tree planted artistically in the middle of the platform before finally making it to the entry. But, we look forward to the opening soon along with there instatement of the grassy area at the back of Shelly beach.

Check the list of things the community has been waiting for in the Shelly beach area.

  • Maintenance/repair/upgrade/replacement of the shower at the top of the ramp at Shelly. shelly ramp

  • Replacement of the large Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve interpretative signs, including the reinstatement of the large sign removed from the top of the slip road at the carpark.

  • Removal of, or at the very least cleaning of the bin hide to the right of the CTBAR sign at the top of the ramp. (actually, all bins could do with a clean)
  • Trimming of the overgrown shrubs blocking the view of the beach from the footpath as well as cleaning the litter away from under these overgrown shrubs. (maybe replacing them with shade trees and some seating might improve the amenity of the area.)
  • General improvements to the landscaping (repair and maintenance of the fencing and paths) around the carpark area, which should include the reinstatement of the grassy picnic areas between the carpark and the beach.
  • Appropriate compliance signs in the area and along the Marine Parade, including replacement of all the graffitied and old Manly Council signs.
  • Replacement of the two worn out old Manly Council Scenic Walkway ‘you are here’ maps. Only one remains at the Shelly beach boat ramp, with the one at the top of the carpark having been gone for ages and the one at Shelly has been rendered useless as the important features have been scratched off. shelly map

We will give the Council a bouquet and check things off the list asthey are completed as the year progresses. Email us atsecretary@manlycommunityforum.com if we have missed anything and you would like it added to the list.
