Council has announced the next phase of the Safer Neighbourhoods Program—a major step forward in creating calmer, more pedestrian friendly streets across the Northern Beaches . The region has been divided into 43 precincts. Three precincts have almost been completed to date. After incorporating community feedback, revised plans for Avalon to Palm Beach, Narrabeen to Mona Vale, and North Balgowlah have been presented to the Local Traffic Committee in May 2025 for final approval. Eastern Hill is next.

Improving the road and slowing the traffic down on Darley Rd is the main focus, however a concept plan for the slowing of traffic on all our streets is being developed with a likely speed limit of 30kph across the area, including Darley Rd. Some of the measures being contemplated include not only installation of speed signs, but installation of several pedestrian crossings, maybe three on Darley Rd, marked bike lanes (we have already said no to concrete to separate the bikes lanes) as well as some changes to the currently marked bike network, possible changes to street parking (from parallel to angel parking in some locations which will increase parking opportunities and reduce the road width and thereby assist in slowing traffic down). Once the concept plan is completed it will be placed on exhibition for consultation.

Council staff will present the initial plans at the MCF meeting on the 21 July 2025. Send any comments to secretary@manlycommunityforum.com
